Unraveling the reaction mechanism for large alpha production and incomplete fusion in reactions involving weakly bound stable nuclei

چکیده
The origin of the large $\alpha$ particle production and incomplete fusion in reactions involving weakly-bound $\alpha$+$x$ cluster nuclei still remains unresolved. While (two-step) process breakup followed by capture ``free" complementary fragment ($x$) is widely believed to be responsible, a few recent studies suggest dominant role (direct) stripping. To achieve an unambiguous experimental discrimination between these two processes, coincidence measurement outgoing particles $\gamma$ rays from heavy residues has been performed for $^7$Li($\alpha$+triton)+$^{93}$Nb system. Proper choice kinematical conditions allowed first time significant population region accessible only direct triton stripping not ``free'' (from three-body continuum). This result, also supported cluster-transfer calculation, clearly establishes dominance cluster-stripping mechanism alpha production.

Reaction dynamics for fusion of weakly-bound nuclei
We discuss several open problems of fusion reactions induced by weakly bound nuclei. For this purpose, we solve a one dimensional three-body Hamiltonian with the coupled-channels formalism. We show that the continuum-continuum couplings substantially reduce the total fusion probability at energies above the barrier compared with the no-breakup case, although the fusion probability remains enhan...

The interaction of “Li. 9Be and “C projectiles with a “Si target was investigated by measuring the angular distributions of the elastically scattered projectiles and of the emitted protons, deuterons and cc-particles. The experiment was performed in order to deduce direct and compound nucleus process contributions to the total reaction cross section and to study the influence of the projectile ...

The effect of breakup is investigated for the medium weight 6Li+59Co system in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. The strong coupling of breakup/transfer channels to fusion is discussed within a comparison of predictions of the Continuum Discretized Coupled-Channels model which is also applied to 6He+59Co a reaction induced by the borromean halo nucleus 6He.
متن کاملFusion suppression and sub-barrier breakup of weakly bound nuclei.
The mechanism for the large suppression of complete fusion in the 9Be+208Pb reaction has been investigated through measurement of sub-barrier breakup of 9Be. Excluding breakup through the 8Be ground state, whose lifetime is too long, a prompt breakup component remains, having sufficient probability to explain the observed suppression of complete fusion. This appears to be associated with intera...
متن کاملRelating breakup and incomplete fusion of weakly bound nuclei through a classical trajectory model with stochastic breakup.
A classical dynamical model that treats breakup stochastically is presented for low energy reactions of weakly bound nuclei. The three-dimensional model allows a consistent calculation of breakup, incomplete, and complete fusion cross sections. The model is assessed by comparing the breakup observables with continuum discretized coupled-channel quantum mechanical predictions, which are found to...
